Christmastime is here!

So Annie and I are both obsessed with Christmas, and have been meaning to make our room a little more festive. Tonight we finally got around to it!

Roomies!

It definitely makes it feel more like Christmas, even if it is just a few lights :)

Halloween at UNC

Halloween at UNC is...an experience shall we say. I decided to go as a fairy. The decision making process was quite simple really: I am lazy and cheap, so I paid no money for this costume and stole the idea from a friend. Basically at Chapel Hill Halloween revolves around Franklin Street. About 85,000 people collectively come from all over and walk up and down Franklin Street with crazy costumes. It's kind of sketchy, but I had to try it, and it was packed!

This is me as a fairy. Sarah managed to capture some pretty sweet lighting.

This is my roommate Annie and I before everyone went to Franklin.
In case you were wondering about the crazy red stuff all over her, it's supposed to be blood, and she is supposed to be Little "Dead" Riding Hood...

These are my friends Sarah and Claire. Sarah went as Audrey Hepburn, and Claire was a pirate.

This was Franklin Street. So many people!

This is my friend Talia who goes to Duke! I wish I got to see her more often :(

I ran into Stephen Temple, who also goes to Duke, who I hadn't seen in a while.
(In case you were wondering why he looks weird, he was supposed to be an emo kid.)

And most exciting of all I got to see my friend Alex. We were best friends in the 5th and 6th grade in Guatemala, and I hadn't seen her in a good 6 years! She is now at Elon, and drove to Franklin with some of her friends.
Oh right. How could I forget that Courtney went as PAULA DEEN.

InterVarsity New Student Retreat

Since I've been at Carolina I've been searching for a good Christian community to get involved with, and it didn't take long for me to decide that InterVarsity was where I needed to be. I go to a small group Bible Study on Monday nights with about ten girls, then every Thursday I go to Large Group, where all InterVarsity members get together to worship and listen to a speaker. I've even gotten to sing on the worship team one week, and I absolutely love the people there. This past weekend was the annual New Student Retreat for all the newbies to get to know each other, so I went down to Sunset beach with about 100 or so other Freshmen or transfer students to worship and get to know each other better in our small groups. I had so much fun, and I got to know a lot of new people.

This is my small group.

My friend Leslie and I, we worked at camp together this summer and became really close friends :)

And this is a MUCH more flattering picture of us, because no one takes good pictures at the beach.
This is my friend Carol who roomed with me on the trip. I got to know her better and I love her!
And this is our "eat pudding out of a gutter" competition...
I could try to explain, but it probably wouldn't help.

Making the room a little happier :)

After going home this weekend, I decided my room, at least my side of it, needed some brightening up. So I brought back a bunch of pictures to put up, and tonight my friend Sarah helped me tape them up all over. Also, my full length mirror was too heavy for the tape holding it to my closet door, and I had given up on rehanging it after the first few days of school. However, Annie is less easily defeated. She decided that the problem was the frame. She was right. So after ripping off the frame by hand, she used up the rest of our tape ensuring that it would not fall again. She succeeded. So overall, my room now feels better. This is Annie, using up all our tape, and looking FINE as she usually does. This is Sarah helping me tape up my pictures :)This is the finished product on my wall. If you don't remember what it used to look like, go down a ways and look at old posts.Sarah's idea to put a border on my bulletin board.Sarah and I :)

And here is the frameless mirror, with added pictures above.
The mirror actually got taped up several weeks ago, so the fact that it hasn't fallen yet speaks for itself!

Mom and Paul will fully appreciate this because it demonstrates my insanity.

Mom. and Paul. Look. at what I found. in the bushes. outside, of Lenoir.
Heck yes I kept him. :)

For those of you who are not my immediate family I should explain two things:
One: that I am quite obsessed with Disney movies, in particular Cinderella.
Two: that GusGus is my favorite character. Paul and I often imitate his voice.

Shane and Shane

Last night I got to go see one of my favorite Christian artists, they call themselves Shane and Shane. A band named Monk and Neagle and Bethany Dillon opened for them, and they were all amazing! I love finding out about good, new Christian music and I was not disappointed in the least with what I heard last night. They played at a nearby church, and it ended up being more of a worship service than a concert. Each act was awesome, and I got to buy some new CDs. I didn't think to bring my camera, but thankfully others did, so I got a picture or two.

Their new album that I now own!

Labor Day Weekend

Reunited again! Laura came in from Wilmington, and Gilly and Kim drove in from Charlotte. We walked around campus a lot, and I got to show them where I go. This is the Peabody Building for Education. Come Junior and Senior year I will have many more classes in here.
Franklin Street is the place to be! We were there a lot...
Apparently game days in the Hill are a big deal...?
We were no exception the the "Turn it Blue" slogan

We won. And my new favorite cheer is "Go to Hell Duke" ;)

They went all out everytime we scored a touchdown.

This is the church I've been told to visit by several people. We went this Sunday, I just found the name ironic.
And we made a short trip to NC State to visit Jeremy!

A Day Trip to Wilmington

Yesterday, as it was my first real weekend in Chapel Hill, naturally I decided to leave. Hehe, acutally I had very good reason, Courtney was taking a day trip to Wilmington, and I decided to go up with her and surprise my best friend Laura, who goes to UNCW. It was a great success. I completely surprised her, and we had a great day walking around campus and doing other fun things.

We got to play Nintendo64...something we like to do often

We also got to be silly...something else we like to do often.

Dorm Room

I thought that this might be the easiest way to keep family and friends updated about how college life is going, so here goes! The first week has been a bit overwhelming, but still very fun. Everything is new! Classes have gone very well, they're all interesting and I've made it to all of them of course ;) Here are a few pictures of my dorm room, and my roommate:
This is my roommate Annie and I at graduation.

This is my side...not as nicely decorated as Annie's but I'm working on it.

My desk. If you look very closely you might find some pictures of cousins next to the computer :)
Closets, TV, etc.
Annie's much more exciting half of the room. She likes Ghandi, in case you couldn't tell.
We have no air conditioning. It is hot outside. These have become our lifeline.
